This daylong, by-invitation-only workshop brought together diverse stakeholders to develop strategies to move towards healthier food-service packaging with the reduced use of highly fluorinated chemicals. These chemicals, which provide water and grease repellency, are extremely persistent and may be harmful to human health.
Workshop topics included:
- health and environmental impacts of the chemicals
- safer alternatives
- obstacles to change and how to overcome them
- composting and/or recycling of these materials
